The Young Rep Company are back for the 30th Anniversary of the NT Connections Festival
The Young Rep Company are returning once again to the rehearsal room in preparation for their upcoming show Brain Play, written by Chloë Lawrence-Taylor and Paul Sirett, for the 30th NT Connections Youth Theatre Festival.
Brain Play is a contemporary new play that emphasizes the challenges we all fear facing in life. The story follows Mia, a normal 15-year-old who loves reading and eating pizza with her friends, until her dad suffers a traumatic brain injury. With her dad no longer acting like himself, Mia makes it her mission to find the cure and restore normality to her life while trying to unjumble the meanings of medical terminology like Vestibulocochlear.
Worcester Theatres’ Creative Producer and Young Rep Artistic Director, Owen Harper said “Brain Play is a heartwarming and tender youthful narrative that examines the experiences of young carers in the UK, highlighting the uncertainty they face when a parent is the one who needs looking after. Rehearsals have been full of energy, and it has been brilliant to see these young actors build on their skills in the rehearsal room – we’ve had a lot of fun bringing this story to life. With mesmerizing puppetry, dynamic ensemble work, and an abundance of scientific terminology, I hope you’ll support these young theatre makers and enjoy this play they have worked so hard on!”
Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the NT Connections festival, led by the National Theatre, provides the incredible opportunity for thousands of young people to perform to audiences in theatres across the UK from a selection of 10 new plays written by developing and professional writers. This will be the fourth year that the Young Rep Company will be taking part in the NT Connections Festival, having previously performed Hunt, Samphire and The Periodicals, and they are excited to share this thought-provoking tale as part of Connections special anniversary.
The Young Rep Company will be performing Brain Play at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday 4th until Thursday 6th March, with performances at 7.30pm. The Worcester Theatres team wish the best of luck to the Young Rep Company and encourage audiences to show their support for this year’s cohort of talented young performers as they shape the future of the arts and theatre industry.
