Festive Theatre Guide – Greater Manchester


At this time of year there are always lots of lovely, family-friendly shows at our local theatres and concert halls. Here are some of our favourites.


29th November to 6th December
Little Red, HOME Mcr
Join our feisty heroine Little Red, as she follows the path to Grandma’s house, meeting talking sheep, dancing trees and a jazz-singing Wolfie along the way.
29th November to 30th December
Wrongsemble presents THE SNOW QUEEN, Waterside, Sale
At the top of the world lives the Snow Queen who is supposed to control the weather. But the seasons aren’t behaving. The world is getting warmer. And it hasn’t snowed for years….
This vibrant musical re-telling of The Snow Queen is reimagined in an exciting adventure for the whole family.

2nd December
The Lightbulb Princess, Z-Arts, Hulme
The Lightbulb Princess is a delightful new show full of sparkle and song, for everyone aged 4 and up.
7th December to 7th January
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Lowry, Salford
Join our intrepid family of adventurers and their musical dog on a quest to find a bear; as they wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud! Expect catchy songs, interactive scenes, plenty of adventure and a few surprises along the way.


8th to 23rd December
Little Women, HOME Mcr,
This enchanting theatrical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s heart-warming classic weaves humour, drama, romance, and tragedy into the story of the March family – a loving mother, Marmee, and her four daughters: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy as they struggle to survive during the American Civil War.
8th December to 2nd January
Sleeping Beauty, Altrincham Garrick Playhouse, Altrincham
Once upon a time in a land far away, a beautiful Princess is given a twenty-first birthday present by her evil aunt; the wicked Enchantress – Carabosse! By pricking her finger on an enchanted spinning wheel, she is placed under a cruel curse and forced to sleep for 100 years.Can a handsome Prince break the spell? Who will outwit the evil Enchantress and foil her wicked plans? Well… there’s only one way to find out! Join us for another Pantomime adventure!
9th December
T’was the Gig Before Christmas, Z-Arts
You’re invited to our secret party, for elves, yourselves and ALL magical Lapland creatures. This fabulous live music event will feature stories through song, dancing and prancing with laughter and spreading plenty of festive spirit. Ssshh, don’t tell Santa!


9th to 31st December
Eight-Freestyle and Contact present: Cinderella, Manchester
eight-freestyle’s wildly popular panto returns with a girl-power spin on the traditional rags-to-riches tale of CINDERELLA! And this time, they’re teaming up with Contact Young Company!
10th December
Manchester Camerata Festive Happening with AMC Gospel Choir, Albert Hall
Start your festivities with this incredibly popular and moving concert for the whole family.
12th December to 6th January
Lost and Found, Aviva Studios, Manchester
Come with us on an epic journey to the South Pole as a boy tries to take a wandering penguin home, in this heart-warming adaptation of Oliver Jeffers’ award-winning children’s story. Featuring puppetry and video projections, a cast of characters that charm and delight, not to mention a gang of rowdy seagulls – expect to laugh and be moved by this touching tale.


14th to 31st December
Twinkle Twinkle, Z-Arts, Hulme
Twinkle Twinkle is a heartwarming, adventure in melody and light, made especially for very young audiences for Christmas by an award-winning team of artists.
17th December
Opera North: Cinderella, The Stoller Hall
Join us for a fun, family-friendly magical adventure where fate and love triumph all! Led by a cast of professional opera singers and musicians we invite you to an interactive and relaxed concert where singing and movement is encouraged. Experience the magic of opera, storytelling and music, whatever your age!

Dick Whittington & The Pirates, Waterside, Sale
Sale Nomads present the spectacular tale of Dick Whittington, the rags to riches tale of one boy’s rise from scruffy northerner to heroic Lord Mayor of London!
A breathless, hilarious, story of ambition, treachery, scheming rodents, faithful moggies, rampaging pirates, precious booty and, ultimately, redemption and everlasting love!! Nomads will take you on a whirlwind voyage of discovery, from London, across the Seven Seas and back again, strap yourselves in for a wild ride!
