Spire Project “Side by Side” Open Day

Friends of St John’s invite you to be inSPIREd at our “Side by Side” Open Day, meet the Spire Project team and learn about the restoration works taking place at Bromsgrove’s landmark ancient Grade I listed building.

Join the Friends of St John’s on Saturday 24th May for the Cake & Coffee Concert with The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire at 10.30am followed by our Spire Project “Side by Side” Open Day from 12 to 3pm. All free to attend.

With the project nearing the halfway stage, this is a perfect chance for local residents and visitors to learn about the project to save the tallest church spire in Worcestershire.

The following areas will be set out inside the church, or within the outside compound (weather permitting):

Stonemason’s Corner with Lewis Allard and Michael Curry to learn about the materials and stone used in the project and have a go at carving a piece of sandstone.

Engineer’s Corner with Ian Ceney – understand how the spire has remained as a landmark for the town for 500 years, using a model of the church and a fan.

Engage with our Architect Stephen Oliver and study the technical drawings to understand what has been happening on the spire and the plans to fully restore it.

Chat with our Historian Simon Henderson and hunt the vicar’s keys.

There will be refreshments available and a chance to have a go on the organ too.
