Halloween at home: easy party ideas for little witches and monsters

You don’t need a house full of decorations or a suitcase-sized sweet budget to make Halloween feel special. A few simple ideas can turn an ordinary afternoon at home into a party children will remember.

Start with a spooky snack table. Keep it easy: fruit kebabs, sandwiches cut into silly shapes, popcorn in paper cups or whatever your children already love. Older children can help make their own spooky treats, while younger ones can enjoy choosing what goes on their plate.

Make the entertainment work for the ages. Under-fives might enjoy a pumpkin treasure hunt, musical statues with spooky songs or a gentle Halloween story. For primary-aged children, try a costume parade, Halloween bingo, a ‘guess what’s in the box?’ game or a torchlit hunt around the garden.

And don’t forget the simplest activity of all: get creative. Set out paper, crayons and stickers and let children design their own monsters, pumpkins or pretend haunted houses.

The best Halloween parties aren’t necessarily the biggest. They’re the ones where everyone gets involved, the snacks disappear and nobody minds if the living room gets a little spooky.
