‘This is a wonderful production to introduce a child to the world of Shakespeare’ (Reviews Hub, 4.5 stars).

Desperate to escape their unhappy fates, young lovers Demetrius, Lysander, Helena and Hermia flee Athens for the moonlit woods. There – along with a band of amateur actors – they fall under the spell of mischievous fairy Puck and tumble into a dream world where illusion and reality are hilariously confused.

Playing at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a 90-minute fresh retelling of Shakespeare’s classic comedy; a feast of magic and mayhem for everyone aged 7 and above. See it this summer from 19 June to 30 August.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the RSC’s first co-production with Unicorn Theatre, the UK’s leading children’s theatre. Unicorn’s Artistic Director Rachel Bagshaw and Associate Director Robin Belfield co-direct this story of unrequited love, self-discovery and seeing the world anew in this ‘playful punchy Shakespeare rom-com’ (Guardian).

Fully integrated creative captions at every performance help the story come to life and young theatregoers can follow the text of the play whilst it’s being performed live on stage.

Enjoy more of the magical world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on your way to The Other Place by exploring a new outdoor installation, opening in late June. The installation trail invites families into a playful journey inspired by the world of the play and the design of our new production. It features colourful woven structures, tyre play sculptures and points of surprise and discovery throughout the Swan and Avon Bank Gardens.

On your visit you can also drop into the Swan Theatre building to see our free exhibition The Play’s The Thing. Featuring items from our Collection you can explore 400 years of theatre making history with costumes, props and interactive displays.
