Easter in Altrincham Celebrates Heritage, Community and the Humble Carrot

This Easter, Altrincham is set to host a vibrant programme of family-friendly activities, headlined by the inaugural “Altringham” Heritage Carrot Day on Saturday 4th April, marking National Carrot Day.

Led by Altrincham BID, the team behind Visit Altrincham, this unique initiative aims to celebrate and revive the town’s agricultural roots by encouraging the cultivation and use of the heritage carrot. Once a staple of the local area, this traditional variety is being reintroduced to promote biodiversity, sustainability, and community growing.

As part of the campaign, heritage carrot seeds will be made available to local schools, gardening groups, clubs, and keen horticulturalists. The initiative also champions seed saving, helping to secure the long-term future of this distinctive crop and ensuring it can be enjoyed for generations to come. Easter Holiday Activities for All Ages

Throughout the Easter holidays, Altrincham BID is partnering with Bounceback Community Kitchen to deliver a series of engaging workshops for both children and adults. These include:

  • Cooking with Carrots – creative, hands-on sessions celebrating the versatility of this humble vegetable
  • Kids Gardening Workshops – inspiring younger generations to grow their own produce

All workshops are bookable via Eventbrite and are designed to be fun, educational, and accessible to the whole community.

The Golden Carrot Trail

Families can also take part in the Golden Carrot Trail, a town-wide adventure running from Friday 3rd April to Sunday 12th April. Participants can collect a trail sheet from Everyman Altrincham before heading out to explore the town, spotting hidden carrots in shop windows and solving clues along the way.

New for this year, the trail will also be available digitally via the Visit Altrincham app, allowing participants to follow the route through the ‘Tours’ section for an interactive experience.

Once completed, families can return to Everyman Altrincham to receive a special treat.

A Celebration of Heritage and Community

“Altringham” Heritage Carrot Day, along with the wider Easter programme, reflects a growing interest in reconnecting communities with local food heritage and sustainability. Altrincham BID has partnered with Share Your Story to create educational displays exploring the town’s market gardening history, on show throughout the Easter holidays.
