It’s Show Time – Altrincham & Sale Theatre Guide
At this time of year there are always lots of lovely, family-friendly shows at our local theatres and concert halls. Here are a few we’ve picked out for you local to Altrincham, Sale and the surrounding areas.
1st to 29th December – The Bear, Waterside, Sale
In its 30th anniversary year Raymond Briggs’ The Bear comes to Waterside this festive season. An enormous polar bear comes to stay with a young girl, Tilly one night. Tilly gives it a bath and clears up its poo! but quickly forms a firm friendship and is soon riding on its back, dancing and playing!
Using beautiful puppetry and enchanting live music, audiences will be captivated by this wonderful show for children aged 3+ and their families.

6th December to 5th January – A Christmas Carol, Lowry Theatre
Hope Mill Theatre are bringing a family friendly version of Alan Menken’s musical adaptation of Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol, to Lowry in Salford this Christmas. Scrooge believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated ‘Bah, Humbug!’ Scrooge is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve, which lead her on a journey through the past, present and future. Will she mend her ways before it is too late?
Starring Claire Moore as Scrooge, the story is brought to life in a dazzling Broadway spectacle, as we join her on an unforgettable journey through time. Suitable for ages 8+

6th December to 5th January – Jack & The Beanstalk – The Garrick Pantomime, Altrincham Garrick Playhouse
The Garrick Panto is back and full of FEE, FIE, FOE, FUN !!
Young Jack, his daft-as-a-brush brother, Silly Simon, and his long-suffering mother, Dame Trott, live in a tiny cottage in the shadow of the terrible giant, Blunderbore. With the rent overdue they have no choice but to sell their beloved cow, Daisy. After tricking the Trotts into selling her for a bag of worthless beans, the villainous giant’s henchman – Fleshcreep – kidnaps the Princess for his master’s supper.
Will Jack be able to rescue Daisy and Princess Jill in time? Perhaps those beans aren’t as worthless as they seemed …

21st December – Opera North: Cinderella, The Stoller Hall
Join performers from Opera North for a fun, family-friendly magical adventure where fate and love triumph all! 10th to 12th and 15th to 19th January – Sale Nomads presents Puss in Boots, Waterside, Sale
Follow the story of Puss In Boots as she helps our hero Harry, The Princess and Fairy Moonbeam take on the Evil Ogre Grizwold and his bumbling sidekick Blotch to save the village of Codswallop.
