I used to love watching Drop the Dead Donkey back in the 90’s and thought I was quite an intellect as I could follow the cutting edge dialogue( or at least I pretended to!) It probably did help that I had a bit of a crush on Neil Pearson , who is looking as good as ever.
It was pure joy watching all the cast come together one by one on stage and there was lots of rounds of applause as each cast member came on stage. The gang are back, they’ve all been hired to front a brand new high tech TV Show delivering the latest news and giving the viewers the TRUTH! As we watched each actor bring their character back to life the audience was captivated with the story line and of course the comedy. We didn’t stop laughing throughout the whole show and there was some very loud and uncontrollable laughing from some of the audience. The content and dialogue was delivered as sharp, as dry and with seamless finesse as it was in the 90’s. It was as if they’ve never been away and we were back in the 90’s watching them on the sofa.
My colleague who came with me , confessed that she had never watched the show before and hadn’t got a clue but she absolutely loved it and was going home to find the original series to watch from the beginning. So this superb show is for anyone who likes comedy with a bit of satire and wants a good night out with lots of good old belly laughing! Everyone came out smiling and laughing and talking animatedly about the show. We were even laughing with people at the train station who had been and watched it too. The show is running until 20th April at The Alexandra in Birmingham.
