RNCM’s 50th birthday celebrations

RNCM’s 50th birthday celebrations

The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is throwing its doors open for a party and everyone is welcome! The fun takes place on Sunday 2 July, with three fabulous parts to the celebrations.

It’s the RNCM’s 50th birthday, but this is a party for everyone with birthday cake, balloons, disco balls, churros, DJs and of course music, lots of uplifting live music to make it a colourful and joyous occasion.  The afternoon will be a jamboree bringing together different artists, themes and experiences, it follows with an evening performance of Into the Woods and it ends with a late night party session.

Explore@RNCM: It’s Party Time!

From 12noon until 4pm there will be a Family Friendly festival feel to an afternoon full of fun activities to enjoy and exciting new things to try out.  Three performance stages will be the setting for a range of bands, groups and choirs including Tanante Drummers, Manchester International Roots Orchestra, The Tebu Project and the RNCM’s own party House Band.  Meanwhile the Concert Hall is being given over to a series of entertaining workshops on percussion, African, Caribbean and Bollywood Dance, singing, and a special circus show given by The Circus House.

The RNCM’s state of the art facilities mean that one of the studio spaces will be transformed into a video gaming experience and for fans of gaming there will also be a Super Mario event.  Or, for something more traditional, a toupee of circus entertainers, including stilt walkers, will be captivating visitors with their tricks, thrills and spills.  There will also be a fabulous birthday cake and festival food – hot dogs, churros, popcorn and more – to tuck in to.

This is a free Family Friendly event, which is bookable in advance.  Tickets and booking details are here.

Explore@RNCM: Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim

At 6pm there will be a one-off performance of Sondheim’s award-winning adventure, Into the Woods. RNCM singers will perform alongside the brand-new Community Chorus entering the troubled lives of fairy-tale characters in a magical forest.  Sarah Tipple is directing the production and George Strickland is the musical director.

The RNCM Community Choir has been established as part of this event to mark the College’s 50th birthday and this will be its debut performance.  It brings together those with a love of music and is open to anyone from the local community.

This is a Family Friendly performance, which is bookable in advance. Tickets are £12 and booking details are here.

Explore@RNCM: Late Night Sessions

As night falls, the RNCM will be lit up with colourful light installations and the disco balls will be shimmering.  From 8pm the whole ground floor of the College will take on a very different night time mood.  DJs Vindya, Mark One and Andrea Trout will take up residency and thrill party goers with five decades of music that will include a nod to Madchester.  The bar will be open and there will be a glass of something bubbly for all to raise a glass in celebration.

This is a free event for all ages, which is bookable in advance.  Tickets and booking details are here.
