Japanese Children’s Day

Japanese Children’s Day

Celebrate Japanese Children’s Day, make cool carp banners and dress up in kimonos.

Explore, learn and create with our programme of FREE family events. Taking inspiration from objects on display across the Oriental Museum‘s galleries, families can get creative all season long. Activities are generally suitable for families with children aged 5 – 11 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

All activities are drop-in – no need to book, unless otherwise stated.

Date: Saturday 4 May
Time: 1pm-3pm

From Ancient Egypt to modern China, the Oriental Museum is devoted entirely to the art and archaeology of the great cultures of Northern Africa and Asia. Laid out over four floors, the museum has fantastic permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions, and hosts a range of family activities and events throughout the year, including religious and cultural festivals.

Explore objects in our permanent galleries from Ancient Egypt, China, Japan, Korea, Himalayas, South Asia and Southeast Asia, as well as our Silk Roads gallery, which combines works from across our collections. We also have a gift shop selling a range of oriental-inspired gifts and souvenirs, and our cafe sells a range of hot and cold drinks as well as savoury and sweet treats.

Our opening times are Tuesday-Friday between 10am-5pm and Saturday-Sunday between 12pm-5pm. We also have twilight opening until 7pm on selected Thursdays each month.

The Museum has a small car park with two designated disabled parking bays, and visitors can use Elvet Hill Car Park during the weekend. More information on parking is available in the Getting Here by Car section on our website.
