International Jousting Tournament at Royal Armouries
It’s International Jousting Tournament time again at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
• Knights in armour on horseback jousting
• Teams from UK, USA and Poland
• Inaugural competition for prestigious new trophy – the King Charles III Coronation Cup.
• New exhibition – Full Tilt: Modern Competitive Jousting
Over the Easter bank holiday weekend (7 – 10 April), we will welcome international teams of knights from Poland and the USA, as well as our home-grown Royal Armouries team competing for the UK.
This is the inaugural competition for a brand-new trophy – the King Charles III Coronation Cup.
This is not a choreographed show of ‘black’ and ‘white’ knights in a contrived battle of good versus evil – this is full-on, all-out authentic competition with thrills and spills, victory and honour, plus plenty of pomp and pageantry.
Our highly skilled knights will compete in full armour, showcasing their horse-riding abilities and courage. The thud of hooves and cheers of the crowd will once more resound from the purpose-built outdoor arena at the Royal Armouries in Leeds as the teams battle it out for honour and trophies.
As well as the tournament shows there will be a packed programme of combat demonstrations, dramatic performances and have-a-go activities throughout the weekend.
There’s also a brand-new exhibition – Full Tilt: Modern Competitive Jousting. Highlighting the stories and achievements of the modern jousting community, the exhibition features photographs, objects, and new audio-visual material to show how the Royal Armouries has successfully revitalised the sport of jousting from a passion project of medieval enthusiasts into the international spectacular sporting event it is today.
Tickets to the International Jousting Tournament start at £5 and are expected to sell out. Your tickets also include entry to the Royal Armouries Museum, home to the national collection of arms and armour from ancient times to the present day.
The museum, located at Leeds Dock, is free to visit and has six galleries with over 4,500 objects on display showing how history, art and culture have been shaped by arms and armour.
