
February Half Term at The Reel Store
This February half term discover Frida Kahlo inspired activities at The Reel Store. To accompany the digital exhibition Life and Work of Frida Kahlo, five days of events featuring sculpture, pattern making, gear design and pot painting have been designed for all ages.
Please note: children must be supervised at all times.
Exhibition tickets must be booked separately to activities.
Flowers & Fruit Enviroart
Wed 22 February | 11.30am – 1.30pm & 2.30 – 4.30pm

Try out pattern-making with natural objects like flowers, fruit and vegetables to create kaleidoscopic artwork inspired by Frida’s colourful style.
This workshop is first-come-first-serve. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Sculpture Portraits
Thu 23 February | 11.30am – 1pm & 1.30 – 3pm

Ages 8 – 13
Learn how to build and paint animals and flowers from recycled materials to construct your own Frida-inspired photographic self-portraits. Using Frida Kahlo’s surreal self-portraits as inspiration, you will make insects, lizards, and birds from recycled materials.
Dancing Gears
Fri 24 February | 1.30 – 3pm

Ages 4+
Design a gear system to make a fashionable model of Frida spin. This activity integrates arts, engineering, design, and maths!
Kahlo Kaleidoscope
Sat 25 February | 10.30 – 11.30am

Ages 4+
Make a real kaleidoscope to explore Frida Kahlo’s bold and bright colour palette. Learn the basics of optics, explore colour, and light and use your art skills to design your own kaleidoscope.
Pot Decorating
Sat 25 February | 2.30 – 4.30pm

Ages 15+
Explore Mexican and Aztec art to create your own design on a pot with a cactus, fit for Frida’s garden.
