
Ashington Christmas Lights Switch-On and Lantern Parade
Kick off the festive season with Ashington’s magical Christmas Light Switch-On and Lantern Parade! Hosted by Ashington Town Council, this much-loved community celebration promises free family fun, live music, and an enchanting Fairies & Elves themed parade.

This year’s festivities are part of Northumberland County Council’s Animating Ashington Autumn/Winter Festival, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via the North East Combined Authority.
Free Family Fun
From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Masonic Hall, families can enjoy hands-on lantern-making workshops. Children can craft their lanterns in preparation for the magical evening parade. There’s even a prize for the best dressed fairy and elf, and all children taking part in the parade will receive a certificate and special memento.
Live Entertainment
Enjoy live music and carol singing throughout the afternoon and evening, featuring the Ashington & District Male Voice Choir, whose festive harmonies will create the perfect seasonal atmosphere.
Fairies & Elves Lantern Parade
The evening’s highlight is the Fairies and Elves themed lantern parade! Children are encouraged to dress as fairies or elves. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, and all participants will take home a certificate and keepsake to remember this magical night.
The Festivities Continue
Don’t miss the 12 Days of Christmas Themed Market on Friday 14th November, from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM, featuring Mrs Claus herself and organised by Money Tree Crafters and Traders.
All activities are free, and families are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy lantern-making and other festive fun.
