Join Us for Altrincham’s Big Ride Out on Sunday 15th September!
Altrincham is gearing up for a fantastic morning of cycling and community spirit on Sunday 15th September with Altrincham’s Big Ride Out!
This family-friendly event invites cyclists of all ages and abilities to take part in a circular, slow-paced ride starting and finishing in the town. The ride is recommended for children aged 9 years and above, and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Whether you’re an experienced rider or just starting, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a relaxed ride as part of a group.
The event will kick off at 10am in Stamford Square, where you can have your bike checked by Dr Bike before the ride begins at 11am. The route has been carefully planned by The Bicycle Society to be suitable for all skill levels. The group will be accompanied by a ride leader supported by other volunteers and the route will include the newly installed Bee Network crossing on Dunham Road, making it a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone.
Event Schedule:
10am-11am – Riders gather in Stamford Square, Altrincham WA14 1SG for Dr Bike pre-ride checks
11am-12noon – Altrincham’s Big Ride Out
10am-1pm – Ongoing activities in Stamford Square including Children’s Balance Bike Sessions & Cargo Bike Try-outs, Bling Your Bike, and the Bee Network Information Stand

Mandy White, Director of Altrincham BID, explained: “We are thrilled to be working with Transport for Greater Manchester, The Bicycle Society, Stamford Cycle Co. and Stamford Quarter to bring this event to Altrincham. Thank you also to Cllr Michael Welton, and other members of Altrincham BID’s Business Active Travel Group, who have been instrumental in getting this event off the ground. It’s a fantastic way for everyone to come together, enjoy a fun ride and find out more about active travel. Enjoy spending time in Altrincham afterwards for lunch and shopping. We hope to see many families and cyclists join us for this memorable event.”
Kelly Leat from TfGM explained, “We’re really looking forward to Altrincham’s Big Ride Out, it’s a great opportunity for the community to take part in a bike ride together. However, for those who can’t ride or are feeling a bit wobbly in the saddle, TfGM offers FREE cycle training courses to help you gain confidence. Also, we’d encourage everyone to get ready for Bikeability’s Cycle to School Week from 23rd to 27th September – a great way for kids to practice their cycling skills and commute to school safely.”
