At the heart of historic Washington village, Washington Old Hall is a picturesque stone manor house and together with its gardens, provide a tranquil oasis, reflecting gentry life following the turbulence of the English Civil War. The building incorporates parts of the original medieval home of George Washington’s – first President of the USA – direct ancestors, and it is from here that the family took their surname of ‘Washington’.

Explore The Nuttery
Located in the National Trust’s Washington Old Hall, the Nuttery is a wildflower nut orchard set in an acre of land bustling with nature. It is home to hundreds of species of insect, birds, mammals, pond life living in a multitude of habitats. We look after this special area for you to witness the beauty and importance of nature especially pollinating insects.
If you have ever wondered what the inside of a beehive looks like or what is lurking in the compost and nesting in the hedgerow then look no further. Learn lots of interesting facts about nature and have fun solving puzzles and activities.

Manor House open 10am – 4pm and Gardens open 10am – 5pm Friday to Monday (April – October)
