For over 60 years, Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) has connected people with creativity. We are a contemporary arts centre and independent charity, with the mission to make art an important part of people’s lives.
Set in the magnificent surroundings of Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham, MAC is the number one visited free attraction in the West Midlands. We welcome over 850,000 visitors annually.
We’re proud to offer a dynamic programme of live theatre, cinema, visual arts exhibitions, practical courses, and special events.
At the heart of MAC is a focus on sustainability, accessibility, and inclusion. We work extensively to support international and local artists, and develop programmes for and with our local community.
We thank all of our supporters and funders particularly players of People’s Postcode Lottery through the Postcode Lottery Trust and Arts Council England. We are an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and gratefully receive public funding through DCMS in the support of our work.
Midlands Arts Centre has always been a family friendly venue, after all MAC started life as a centre for children and young people. As such, we strive to make ourselves as friendly – and functional – as possible.

MAC cannot accept responsibility for your children, so we kindly ask parents, carers and guardians to stay with them at all times, unless they’re booked onto a fully-supervised, paid-for activity.
Feeding your child
Please feel comfortable to breastfeed at MAC. Should you prefer privacy, a sofa is available in the large baby feeding/change room on the ground floor next to MAC Café, but the choice is absolutely yours.
There is a microwave available in MAC Café for you to warm food or bottles for weaning children, and a bottle warmer is available in the baby feeding room. Our Café also offers a wide range of children’s meals.
Baby changing
Our baby change rooms have space for buggies and a nappy/wipe vending machine is also available in the main ground floor feeding room. We’ve tried to fill them with things you’ll need (hooks/shelves for changing bags, stools, soft mats, paper towels, sanitiser spray etc.)
Access for buggies
MAC’s building is serviced by two lifts; one next to the Cinema and Arena Bar, and the other by MAC Café. These lifts and ramps make the building fully accessible for everyone moving around with wheels!
Things to do
Whilst our programme is vast, we know there may not always be something specific for kids to do at MAC. So we are developing a series of building-based activities to ensure our younger visitors are inspired and engaged to become the next generation of arts attenders.
We are proud to be holders of Birmingham City Council’s ‘family friendly’ kitemark. Find out what’s coming up here at MAC.
