Explore Colchester Museums – a great family adventure!

Discover the captivating Colchester Castle Museum, Europe’s largest Norman Keep and key heritage attraction in the East of England. Families can discover 2,000 years of history through engaging displays and innovative technology. Experience the legacy of Queen Boudica, race a Roman chariot, or take a guided family tour. The brave can explore the Castle’s prison or go at your own pace with an augmented reality tablet tour, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Join us on the first Sunday of the month for a little calm at Colchester Castle. These sessions are suitable for visitors with ASD, providing an opportunity for them to explore the museum at a quieter time. We aim to minimise sensory stimulation in the galleries by turning off audio and visuals, whilst providing a sensory space off the main gallery.

Just a short walk away, Hollytrees Museum, located in a beautiful Georgian townhouse, showcases three centuries of intriguing toys, domestic items, and an impressive clock collection. Make sure you see the remarkable dolls’ house that replicates Hollytrees and its inhabitants from 1901.

The Natural History Museum, situated in the historic All Saints Church, is a treasure trove of local wildlife and biodiversity. Children can crawl through a badger’s sett, marvel at mammoth bones, and stare in awe at giant prehistoric shark jaws. With free entry, this family-friendly museum provides an engaging and educational experience for all ages.

Embark on a journey through time and nature at Colchester Museums, where history, culture, and wildlife come together to create an unforgettable family adventure!
