Pumpkin patches in Suffolk: where to pick your own this October

Suffolk’s pumpkin patches are getting ready for another autumn of muddy boots, wheelbarrows and the annual debate over which pumpkin is the one. Here are some of the places already confirmed for 2026.

If your family considers October incomplete without a trip to a pumpkin field, the good news is that Suffolk has plenty of opportunities to get outside and choose your own this autumn.

Dates vary between farms, so it is worth checking before setting off, particularly if the weather has been doing its usual October thing.

Rougham Estate, near Bury St Edmunds

Rougham’s pumpkin patch returns in 2026 at a new location, just south of Junction 45 of the A14, around three miles east of Bury St Edmunds.

The pick-your-own patch opens on the weekends of 3-4, 10-11 and 17-18 October, then runs daily from 24 to 31 October, generally from 9am to 5pm. Admission and parking are free.

There are also evening Pumpkins by Torchlight and Silent Disco sessions on 17 and 24 October, plus dedicated SEN-friendly sessions on 27 and 29 October.

Suffolk Pumpkin Patch, Barton Mills

A new pumpkin experience for 2026, Suffolk Pumpkin Patch at Barton Mills is open on selected dates from 2 October through to Halloween.

Alongside picking your own pumpkin, families can try the new 44-metre observation wheel, pumpkin carving, space hoppers and other activities. There is also a street food area, with the patch open into the evening on Fridays, weekends and during half term.

The organisers recommend booking ahead. Main paths are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, although some areas of the field can be uneven, and wellies are recommended.

Akenham Hall

Akenham Hall’s pumpkin patch, north of Ipswich, opens on 3 October, with further opening dates on the following weekends and throughout 24-31 October.

There are more than 25 varieties of pumpkin to choose from, alongside a coffee station, sweet treats and family activities including a bouncy castle, donkey rides and alpaca leading.

It is open from 10am to 4pm, making it a useful option if you are looking for a daytime autumn outing rather than an evening Halloween event.

Siam Hall Spooky Pumpkins, Boxford

Over on the Suffolk-Essex border, Siam Hall near Boxford is opening its family-run pick-your-own patch on 10-11 and 17-18 October, followed by daily opening from 24 to 31 October.

The farm has been growing pumpkins and running its pick-your-own patch since 2018, with pumpkins in a range of shapes, sizes and colours. There are also food and drink stalls on opening days.

Opening hours are 10am to 4pm.

A few things to remember

Pumpkin picking is one of those lovely autumn outings that looks very straightforward until you arrive with a toddler, a pushchair and a field that has had three days of rain.

Wellies are a sensible choice, and it is worth checking the organiser’s website or social media before travelling for any weather-related changes. If you are visiting with a wheelchair or pushchair, check the latest access information for the particular patch you are planning to visit.

And perhaps most importantly, let the children choose the pumpkin. Even if you know perfectly well that the enormous wonky one will never fit in the boot.
