Chocolate Pancakes

  • Suitable for freezing
  • Preparation 5 minutes
  • 4 minutes cooking time
  • 140 C°, 275 F°, Gas Mark 1



  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Melted Butter or Margarine
  • 1 cup Plain Flour
  • 1/3 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 cup Caster Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • Toppings of your choice


  1. Mix together the milk, eggs and butter
  2. In a separate bowl mix the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt and baking powder
  3. Combine the wet mix with the dry ingredients and mix until any lumps have gone
  4. Heat a griddle or frying pan (I use a little lard but you can use a drizzle of water.
  5. Pour mixture (about 1/4 cup for each pancake) and cook for 1-2 mins until batter has set around the edge
  6. Flip over and again cook for 1-2 mins
  7. Repeat until all mixture has been used
  8. Serve as desired – a sprinkle of icing sugar, ice-cream, chocolate sauce, with raspberries and raspberry coulis! (as a very special treat I leave a few toppings in bowls on the table for the kids to choose!)
