Syston knitting Banxy teams up with De Montfort Hall for an Aardman spectacular!

Syston Knitting Banxy teams up with De Montfort Hall for an Aardman spectacular! Ahead of Aardman in Concert on Tuesday 27 October, De Montfort Hall has added some knitted Aardman characters outside the venue, thanks to local artist, Syston Knitting Banxy.

Syston Knitting Banxy is a mystery craftperson who set out to bring joy to Syston, before becoming a local sensation. The mystery knitter’s journey began in 2019 with a knitted Easter topper, before going on to create dozens of themed post box toppers, commemorating local and national news. The affectionately known SKB asks for no recognition or renumeration, often donating any to local charities. However, they were awarded their own post box in Syston thanks to generous donations from residents, which now acts as a permanent art feature to display their incredible work.

The latest post toppers decorate the iconic De Montfort Hall, showcasing beloved Aardman characters like Feathers McGaw and Wallace and Gromit. The collaboration celebrates the upcoming Aardman in Concert at De Montfort Hall, where audiences will be treated to a joyful big-screen celebration of Aardman animation, all brought to life with a world-class orchestra and culminating in a screening of Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death, with the soundtrack performed live by the orchestra.

When speaking on the local collaboration, Venue Director Antony Flint noted “SKB is someone whose work we have admired for a while, it brings much needed joy and art to Leicestershire communities, which is something we strive to do at De Montfort Hall too. We hope customers coming along to Aardman in Concert and indeed other events and enjoy the knitted creations along with their theatre trip!”

Syston Knitting Banxy also spoke on the collaboration “It’s been so wonderful to be asked to create some knitted toppers for De Montfort Hall. I feel most honoured to have been asked to team up with De Montfort Hall and have been an Aardman fan myself for many years, so this was the perfect request. We hope the post toppers bring joy to the building, staff and customers!”

The post toppers will remain outside De Montfort Hall throughout October, then being offered up as competition prizes on De Montfort Hall’s social media.
