Who’s behind Raring2go! Leicester?

Hi, I’m Alex, the person behind Raring2go! Leicester.

If you’ve ever wondered who actually puts the magazine together, delivers it, or replies when you email, it’s just me. There’s no team, no call centre. When you advertise with Raring2go! Leicester, you’re working directly with the person who designs the magazine, sells the advertising, and delivers it to schools and libraries across the city.

I moved to Leicester in 2004 to study graphic design at University, and have never left! I’ve spent the past 20 years working as a graphic designer, but always had a nagging feeling of wanting to run my own business one day.  Raring2go! Leicester launched in September 2025, and this autumn’s issue marks the end of my first full year.

Outside work, I’m married with a 13-year-old stepdaughter and a 5-year-old son, and we live just outside town. My son and I clock up plenty of hours playing football at our local parks. I love being outdoors, and thankfully so does he. I love travel, Italy (any of it!) is one of my favourite places to be. Sipping wine and eating Neapolitan pizza in an Italian piazza is about as good as life gets.

I’m fiercely competitive and put a lot of pressure on myself to succeed. Which probably explains why I left a steady job to build Raring2go! Leicester.

As a parent myself, I am also my intended reader. When I’m deciding what goes in the magazine, or which businesses to feature, I’m thinking about it the same way I think about my own family’s weekends, what’s worth knowing about, what’s worth trying, and what actually helps.

Every quarter, over 10,000 copies go home in primary school bookbags across Leicester and the surrounding villages, with digital copies reaching families at every other school too. This is alongside the website, e-newsletter and social channels.

Where I want this to go

I want Raring2go! Leicester to become the place local families come to, to find out what’s on and where, to discover local businesses they can trust, and to find a community of other parents and families who get it.

Why it matters if you’re thinking of advertising

Because it’s genuinely just me, I care about your results, not just your booking. If something isn’t working, tell me and I’ll help you figure out what will. I’d rather build a relationship with a handful of businesses that stick around and see real results than sell a one-off ad and never hear from you again.
