Following the huge success of our Summer Open Day two years ago, we are delighted to be opening our doors once again for a fantastic day of theatre, family fun, entertainment, behind-the-scenes tours and a chance to discover everything that makes the Garrick so special.
Whether you’re one of our loyal Garrick Friends, a regular audience member, a volunteer, or simply curious to discover what happens backstage at your local theatre, we’d love to welcome you to our Summer Open Day on Sunday 5th July.

This special community event offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the theatre, meet our volunteers and theatre team, and enjoy a packed programme of entertainment and activities for all ages.

Go Behind the Curtain – Theatre Tours
Ever wondered what happens backstage at a working theatre?
Our popular guided theatre tours will give you exclusive access to areas normally hidden from public view and reveal the creativity, craftsmanship and teamwork involved in bringing every production to life.
Tours Include:
🎭 The Auditorium – discover the history of the Garrick and how it all began
🎭 The Stage – stand where generations of performers have appeared and learn how productions come together
🎭 Workshop – see where scenery, props and set pieces are designed and built
🎭 Wardrobe Department – explore our incredible costume collection
🎭 Scene Dock – discover where scenery is stored and prepared
🎭 Prop Dock – browse a fascinating collection of theatrical treasures from productions past and present
Each tour lasts one hour.

Please note:
- Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
- Due to the historic nature of the theatre, parts of the backstage tour include areas that are accessed by stairs and step-free access is not available throughout the building.
Advance booking is strongly recommended as tour numbers are strictly limited.
