A milestone year for Elmridge as Hale Barns school turns 65 and achieves Green Flag Award
Elmridge Primary School is celebrating a landmark year as it marks its 65th anniversary and receives the prestigious Schools Green Flag Award for environmental excellence.
Since opening its doors on 1 May 1961, the Hale Barns school has been at the heart of the community, providing outstanding education and creating lasting memories for generations of children and families.
To celebrate the milestone, pupils took part in a week of special activities exploring the school’s history, community and future. Highlights included historical workshops, creating a time capsule, acts of kindness, gratitude activities and a fun-filled festival day featuring games, arts and crafts, and inflatables donated by the PTA.
The celebrations also highlighted the close partnership between schools within Bright Futures Educational Trust, with A-level History students from Altrincham Grammar School for Girls supporting activities focused on life in the 1960s.
Principal Becky Bolton said: “Celebrating 65 years of Elmridge has given us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our proud history and the many generations of children who have passed through our doors. It has been a year of celebration, achievement and continued investment. I am immensely proud of our pupils, staff and wider community, whose enthusiasm and commitment make Elmridge such a special place to learn and grow. As we look ahead, we are excited to build on this success and continue providing exceptional opportunities for every child.”
Adding to the school’s milestone year, Elmridge was also awarded the Schools Green Flag Award, recognising its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Led by Mr Stant and the school’s dedicated Eco-Warriors, pupils have developed a Climate Action Plan, enhanced biodiversity across the grounds and embedded sustainable practices into everyday school life. Initiatives include creating wildlife habitats, planting pollinator-friendly areas, organising litter picks, promoting active travel and expanding outdoor learning opportunities.
The school has also invested in energy-efficient improvements, including LED lighting and solar panels, helping to reduce its environmental impact while inspiring pupils to become responsible global citizens.
Alongside its environmental achievements, Elmridge has continued to invest in opportunities for children through the refurbishment of its Music Hub and Breakfast Club facilities. The school’s Nursery is also being remodelled, with the enhanced learning environment set to open for the new academic year.
As Elmridge celebrates its 65th year, it continues to build on a proud legacy of inspiring young people to learn, thrive and make a positive difference in their community and beyond.
