The Gruffalo – Belgrade Theatre, Coventry
Earlier this week, we were kindly invited along to see The Gruffalo at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, and what a fantastic show it was!
Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s classic book has been delighting families on the stage for 25 years! From the moment the show began, the audience was completely captivated by Tall Stories’ much-loved adaptation of the Gruffalo and it’s easy to see why! Children were laughing, joining in and fully immersed in the magic of the deep dark wood.
The production is packed with energy, humour and wonderfully catchy songs, bringing Mouse, Fox, Owl, Snake and of course the Gruffalo himself brilliantly to life on stage. The cast were excellent throughout, with lots of playful audience interaction that kept little ones engaged from start to finish. Snake was definitely our favourite character, very funny and with some great singing and dancing, my son couldn’t stop talking about him afterwards!

At around an hour long, it’s the perfect length for younger children and a lovely introduction to live theatre. The mix of storytelling, music, puppetry and silliness created such a warm, joyful atmosphere, with so many smiling faces throughout the theatre.

A truly magical family show that captures all the charm of the much-loved story – we thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to families with young children.
It’s on this week at The Belgrade!
