Same Values, New Chapter at Bowdon Prep

Bowdon preparatory school, altrincham

Bowdon Preparatory School in Altrincham is entering an exciting new chapter. From September, the school will welcome boys alongside girls, beginning a phased move to co-education. At the same time, Bowdon Prep is joining the Repton family of schools, linking it with one of the UK’s most respected independent school groups.

This development follows consultation with families and is designed to strengthen the school’s long term future while remaining true to its values. The move to co-education and the partnership with Repton build on Bowdon Prep’s existing strengths.

The school will remain locally led, with leadership, staff and day to day experience unchanged. Its values, community and approach to education remain firmly in place.

At the same time, the Repton partnership brings strengthened governance, professional collaboration and access to a wider educational network. Repton is internationally recognised for academic excellence and its experience in co-education.

Bowdon Prep is known for developing confident, curious learners and preparing children for the opportunities and challenges ahead. Guided by its motto, Believe, Persevere, Succeed, the school places equal importance on academic progress, personal development and participation across school life.

From September 2026, boys will be welcomed into Kindergarten through to Year 3, progressing through the school year by year, until the school is fully co-educational by 2029. This phased approach ensures that quality and class sizes are maintained while allowing the school to grow in a measured way.

Bowdon Prep continues to be recognised for its academic outcomes and strong community. Joining the Repton family widens opportunity while preserving the character and direction of the school.

Families interested in learning more are encouraged to visit the school and see it in action.
