Quick picnic ideas for busy families
When the sun is shining and the kids are full of energy, there’s nothing better than packing up a picnic and heading outdoors for a day of fresh air, fun, and family time. Whether you’re off to the park, the beach, or just setting up a blanket in your own garden, a picnic can turn any outing into a mini adventure!
The best part? Picnics don’t have to be fancy or time consuming. With a few quick, no-fuss ideas, you can whip up a spread that’s both delicious and kid-approved. Think finger-friendly favourites that travel well and keep little ones smiling.
Don’t forget to bring along plenty of water, a comfy picnic rug, and maybe a game or two.
Ingredients
- Bread/pittas/baguette/wraps
- Crackers
- Fruit
- Humus
- Pasta/Cous Cous
- Popcorn
- Vegetables that can be eaten raw
Method
- Make mini sandwiches in fun shapes using cutters or make double decker ones.
- Vary the bread. Try mixing white & brown, try wraps, mini baguettes or pitta bread.
- Straw Kebabs. Make kebabs using straws – thread on slices of rolled up ham or turkey with cubes of cheese, cherry tomatoes, red pepper or chunks of cucumber.
- Fruit Kebabs – as above but use chunks of pineapple, grapes, strawberries etc.
- Pack a tub of humus or dip for carrot & cucumber batons & breadsticks.
- Instead of crisps try lightly salted popcorn or mini rice cakes.
- Home made pizza – use bought bases or baguettes cut in half – to with a little tomato puree, cheese & favourite toppings and cook before you head out.
- Pasta or couscous salad with tuna, sweetcorn and cucumber plus a little mayonnaise or try a ham and pasta salad with tomato, grated carrot, shredded lettuce & a little of their favourite dressing.
