Homemade burgers with mozzarella cheese

Family Meals

We all love a burger don’t we? Here’s a simple recipe for delicious homemade burgers with mozzarella cheese, which the whole family will love…

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • For the burger patties:
    • 1 lb (450g) minced beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
    • 1 onion thinly diced
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
    • ½ tsp chilli powder ( optional)
  • For the assembly:
    • 4 burger buns
    • 4 slices mozzarella cheese (fresh or regular)
    • Lettuce (optional)
    • Tomato slices (optional)
    • Ketchup, mustard, or your favourite condiments (optional)
    • Pickles (optional)

Method

  1. Prepare the Patties:
    • In a bowl, mix the minced beef, diced onion, salt & pepper (chilli powder & garlic powder if required)
    • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions.
    • Form each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indent in the centre of each patty (this helps them cook evenly).
  2. Cook the Patties:
    • Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Adjust the cooking time depending on your preference (longer for well-done).
    • About 1 minute before the patties are done, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on top of each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.
  3. Toast the Buns:
    • While the burgers are cooking, toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
  4. Assemble the Burgers:
    • Place the cooked patties with melted mozzarella on the bottom half of each bun.
    • Add any desired toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, or mustard.
    • Top with the other half of the bun.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the burgers hot with your favourite side dish (chips, or salad).

We hope you really enjoy your delicious homemade mozzarella cheese burgers!
