Review- Treasure Island at Artrix Bromsgrove
It was so lovely to be back watching Panto at the Artrix in Bromsgrove and boy did they deliver a foot stomping show!
Most of us know the story of Jim Hawkins, the map and how he defeated the dastardly Long John Silver to get the buried treasure. So it was pure joy to see the story bought to life on stage by the amazing cast from Halftail Productions.
We must start with Babs Hawkins (William Hastings) who acted the dame superbly with perfect comedy timing, wit and fabulous outfits- I felt exhausted just watching her run around the stage and changing into all her outrageous costumes. Jim Hawkins acted by the super talented Dylan Foster-Agg held his own on stage with the big characters and his singing was truly exceptional, a young man with a huge future ahead of him.
Killian Perpetuini was Tim Hawkins, brother of Jim and he was hilarious! You could see that he was really enjoying himself and owned the stage with his character’s fun antics and got the audience to join in with the mayhem.
Scott Simpson as Long John Silver had some pipes and performed some really hard songs with absolute ease. He was dashingly dastardly as the bad pirate but not too menacing for the little ones.
We all need a fabulous Fairy and Abigail Cutler graced the stage with her fun repertoire and beautiful singing. Plus she managed to change into another character too, to deliver us more fantastic songs as the cruise ship-singer!
Jim and Babs both had love interests in the Squires daughter and the Squire. Sophie Harper acted Jenny Trelawney the Squires daughter with the confidence of someone that had been acting for years, and her singing voice was angelic. Another young star in the making!
The Squire acted by the marvellous Sarah Lake Wynen was exceptional as the straight-talking, problem-solving Squire. She’s a super talented actor with a voice to match who delivered a warm and reassuring role. I’ve also got to give a shout out to Willy and Silly the side kick pirates of Long John Silver who were hilarious to watch and they just oozed comedy, you can see it’s in their bones!
Last but not least was Anthony Theophanous aka Fat Theo who acted two roles as Billy Bones and Old Ben Fun. I’ve seen him before in his stand-up show so was really impressed with him when he started to sing a bit of Wham!
The whole cast were amazing from the dance assemble to the drama assemble but especially the very young support actors who gave it their all with absolute star quality on stage.
Congratulations to everyone involved from front of house, backstage and all the technical support. The show was superb and it was brilliant to watch such a fab performance at the Artrix. Easily a 5 STAR review!
So book your tickets HERE for a fab time with the family this festive season, Treasure Island is on until the 29th December.
