A Day in the Life at RoboThink Altrincham: Where Curiosity Meets Robots

Ever wondered what actually goes on inside a kids’ STEM club? At RoboThink Altrincham, the answer is simple: creativity, collaboration, and a healthy dose of excitement as young engineers let their imaginations run wild.
We are proud to be Ofsted registered, so parents can trust that every session meets high standards for quality, safety, and care. It is important to us that children learn and grow in a secure, professionally run environment.
Let us walk you through a typical session.
The doors open and children arrive full of energy, eager to find out what robot they will be building today. After a quick team challenge to break the ice and get everyone involved, it is time to get hands on. Every session is built around a fresh theme or engineering challenge, so there is always something new to explore. One week it might be building a robot animal, another week, a robot that follows a path or navigates a maze.
Our instructors introduce the day’s challenge and demonstrate the core skills for the session, keeping things interactive so everyone gets involved.
Nobody is sitting quietly at the back in our club. Everyone has a chance to lead, ask questions, and put their ideas to the test. The best moments usually happen when children hit a roadblock, because that is when problem solving and teamwork kick in. It is not about getting it right the first time, it is about trying, tinkering, and discovering what works and what does not.
We see confidence grow week by week, especially for those who start out shy or think they are not good at science. Before long, even the quietest child is excited to show off their creation or explain how they improved their design. Friendships develop and every session ends with a group demo, which could be robot races, talent shows, and plenty of laughs (usually at the robots’ expense).
Parents often tell us how much their children look forward to RoboThink days and how the skills picked up in club spill over into schoolwork and life. And for us, there is nothing better than seeing the spark of curiosity turn into a genuine passion for STEM.
