Quads expected during Lambing Week on the Farm at Tatton Park!

The rare breed farm at Tatton Park is eagerly awaiting the arrival of furry foals, cute calves, perfect piglets, cheeping chicks and of course leaping lambs. At this exciting time of year visitors will get to see miniature versions of their farmyard favourites and learn all about them from the knowledgeable farm staff, with the highlight being Lambing Week from 5 – 13 April (closed on Monday 7 April), with a bumper bundle of 46 lambs expected including 10 twins, 7 triplets and a set of quads:

Farm assistant Elly Edwards said: “My favourite thing about lambing is the excitement and the sense of privilege that comes with welcoming new life. I love the smell of newborn lambs and the satisfaction you get from seeing happy, healthy lambs skipping about the lambing pens. It’s one of the hardest times of year on the farm because of the sleepless nights… we don’t let the ewes go more than 4 hours without checking on them even through the night. But it’s the most rewarding.”

Baarmy about lambs?

Every day throughout lambing week daily talks at the lambing shed will take place at 12pm & 2pm, with Farm staff sharing their expertise with visitors about how they spot the signs of lambing and how they look after sheep and care for lambs during this extra special time.

Baby boomers

The anticipation is rising as the Farm staff eagerly await the arrival of Tabitha the Shire horse mare’s third foal on 9th May, the first on the Farm for 8 years. While over in the pig pen, Bonnie and Susie, the Large White sows, are both due a litter of piglets at the start of April. Gracie the Guernsey cow and Jasmine the Jersey/Norwegian Red, and Hetty the Hereford cross are all expecting a calf with 4 more due from the Red Polls.

It’s all goat at the Farm!

On 3 May our gorgeous Royal Golden Guernsey goats Emily and her daughter Rose are going to be joining in the Knutsford Mayday Parade and the Farm staff have already been busy taking these very important goats out and about to practise their walking!
