Covid-19 Day of Reflection – 9th March 2025
As 2025 marks five years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government, through the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, have announced that, this year, Sunday 9th March 2025 will be the UK’s Day of Reflection. The day is an opportunity for everyone to remember those that have lost their lives to Covid-19 in the UK and to reflect on the lasting impact that the pandemic has had, and the sacrifices and kindness shown throughout this period in our lives.
As the pandemic affected us all, communities are being invited to come together, and to mark the Covid-19 Day of Reflection in ways that are meaningful to them. Whether this is organising or attending a local memorial event, lighting a candle at home, or a visit to the National Covid Memorial Wall in London, the day is an opportunity to honour and remember every one that has been, and continues to be, affected.
When announcing the date, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said:
“The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on all of us. This Day of Reflection is an opportunity to remember the friends and loved ones that we lost, as well as the sacrifices that so many people made.
There are lots of ways to take part in the Day of Reflection, whether it’s organising or attending a community event, or remembering in your own way at home. It’s important that people take part in the way that is right for them.”
The COVID-19 Day of Reflection is one of ten recommendations that were made by the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration.
On this Covid-19 Day of Reflection, you may wish to:
- Remember those who have lost their lives to Covid-19
- Reflect on the impact that the pandemic had, and the sacrifices people made
- Remember the acts of kindness and assistance provided by friends, family and other volunteers
- Reflect on the work of key workers
