Review: Spilmans Pumpkin Festival

What a fantastic family day out we have had at Spilman’s Pumpkin Festival.
We arrived just after 11:30 when the festival was in full swing. The car parks were quite busy but were very well organised by the staff on site. We were directed to our car park which was only a short walk from the main entrance.
As we walked down to the entrance we were greeted by 2 lovely ladies wearing pumpkin outfits – they were extremely helpful, gave us all the information we needed, showed us the huge quantity of wheelbarrows to borrow for the pumpkins (which are sometimes rather sparse at other pumpkin patches) and directed us to where we the official entrance was.
We headed on down, wheelbarrows in tow, towards the fun. The festival was organised brilliantly, everything clearly signposted. We started with a pumpkin festival show. The show was brilliant, the whole history of the pumpkin, born out of Spilman’s farm (in Sessay!). The 2 actors sang beautifully and kept us entertained for a good 20 minutes!
After we headed on down the pumpkin field and found the tractor ride. With admission, you get a voucher to use with Spilman’s activities. You get 5 vouchers per paying person with children under 2 free. We used 4 of our 20 vouchers on the tractor ride. My little boy was in his element!
Afterwards we headed over to pick out pumpkins! What a fantastic array of colours! We chose orange, yellow, white and blue pumpkins, all varying in size! We decided to take our pumpkins back to the car and when we went to pay discovered we could use our vouchers for the pumpkins so they were all free!! What a result!
We washed our pumpkins and popped them back in the car! Now to discover some food. We went to the farm cafe and sat down to eat some stonebaked pizza which is made on site, chips and churros to finish! It was all extremely reasonably priced and tasted delicious, especially the churros!
We continued our adventure and checked out some of the fairground rides. These are not included in your ticket price but we felt that was alright as we had so much included already. We paid between £2.50 – £4 for the rides which we felt was reasonable.
We checked out the spooky trail which we used our vouchers for and that was very spooky indeed! Lots of ghouls and ghosts to discover, not for the faint hearted!! We then used our last vouchers for the potato slingshot and the corn cannon! My 5 year old had a fantastic time trying to shoot the targets!
We have had a fantastic day and we cannot wait to return again next year. There were photo opportunities galore, fantastic food choices and plenty of activities included in your ticket price. Enough to keep the family entertained for hours!
