Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, in Sheffield, is a place filled with laughter and love. We give families the chance to relax, take a break and have fun, and we help support the whole family.
At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, we care for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. We are currently supporting around 250 families, both in our hospice and in family homes. In just one year, Bluebell Wood provides more than 50,000 of hours of care.
Our services are always developing to meet the needs of families. Short breaks, end of life treatment and care, emergency admissions, counselling, home visits and activity therapy sessions are just a few of the many wide ranging services Bluebell Wood provides. In just one year, we provide around:
- 1750 short breaks
- 300 emergency admissions
- 315 days of end of life care
- 450 home visits
- 190 child day care sessions
- 400 young adult sessions
- 1,000 hours of support for siblings
- 1,200 hours of bereavement support and counselling
- and much, much more.
Our building is welcoming and homely for families facing the toughest of times; our Care Team members are on hand providing specialist support tailored for each child or young adult. We have plenty of fun activities for families to create special memories together, including soft play, large gardens, a sensory room and play/music therapy areas.
It costs more than £4m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and part of North Lincolnshire. Bluebell Wood receives around 10% of its funding from government sources. We are one of only 53 children’s hospices nationally.
Demand for our services continues to grow as nationally there are estimated to be 49,000 children and young people with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.

Naughty but nice Puddings!
Check out our delicious puddings, my favourite is the limoncello trifle, not suitable for the kids, but there are some other scrummy recipes that the whole family can enjoy! Take a look in our pudding section for recipes to make summer BBQ's and eating alfresco all the more tasty! My girls LOVE the chocolate pizza - making it, but mostly eating it!
Over the weekends and holidays there are always times when your children need some chill out time, or to fill an hour or so, or they say the dreaded 5 letter word - BORED! Well, our KidsZone is here to rescue you and them from these moments. Full of puzzles, colouring in sheets and activities from films and programmes there is lots to keep busy!
