Wolverhampton Art Gallery February Half Term Family Activities

Join us this February half-term 2026 for a colourful line-up of creative workshops for children and young people aged 5–16! From designing outfits for your favourite toy to crafting vibrant Rangoli patterns and creating your own magical guardian beast, each session is packed with fun, imagination, and hands-on creativity. Inspired by cultural celebrations and iconic artworks, these workshops are perfect for curious minds and budding artists.

Date: Monday 16 February 2026

Title: Mini Me Dress Up

Activity overview/description: Bring in your favourite toy figure and make them a whole new outfit! With colourful felt and my easy ‘Stitchety’ patterns this is a wonderfully creative way to explore identity and the possibilities of simple sewing.

Workshop timings:

  • 10.30am-12pm
  • 15pm-1.45pm
  • 2pm-3.30pm

Age: 5-16

Cost: 4.50 + Booking Fee

Title: Holi Rangoli Workshop with Jaivant Patel Company

Activity overview/description: Join Jaivant Patel Company in celebrating Holi, the Indian festival of colour, with a Rangoli art inspired workshop.

Rangoli is a traditional artform using colours to create vibrant geometric designs that welcomes the arrival of spring.

Each participant will create their own unique Rangoli inspired design to take home to celebrate the new season.

Workshop timings:

  • Workshop 3: 12:45
  • Workshop 4: 13:45
  • Workshop 5: 14:45

Age: 5-16

Cost: Free (Must still book a free ticket to attend)

 

Date:  Thursday 19 February

Title: Guardian Beasts: Make Your Own “Alan Measles” character, inspired by Grayson Perry

Activity overview/description: Inspired by Grayson Perry’s childhood teddy bear and alter ego, Alan Measles, this playful family workshop invites children and parents to design their own guardian beast. Using fabric, collage, and colourful embellishments, families will create imaginative protectors – whether teddy bears, dragons, or robots, each with unique powers and stories. Fun, hands‑on, and full of personality, Guardian Beasts celebrates imagination, identity, and storytelling, giving every child the chance to take home a magical creature of their own.

  • Workshop 2: 12pm – 1pm
  • Workshop 3: 1:30pm – 2:30pm
  • Workshop 4: 2:45pm – 3:45pm

Ongoing Early Years Activities (Age 0-5) 

ART PLAY

Location: Wolverhampton Art Gallery

When: Sundays 11.00am to 1.00pm on 25 January, 22 February & 29 March 2026

Join us for our creative, sensory play sessions for families with babies and toddlers led by artists and early years’ educators. Take time to relax, imagine and find inspiration together.

Ages: 0 to 5 (older siblings are also welcome to attend)

Cost: £3.14 + booking fee per child


BILSTON BODDLERS

Location: Bilston Gallery

When: Thursdays during term time, 12.30pm to 2pm

Bilston Boddlers are fun sessions for families with young children, which provide babies and toddlers with all kinds of imaginative materials to explore their world and get creative through functional, inventive and messy play.

Age: 0 to 5 (older siblings are welcome to attend).

Cost: Free. Drop in.


BILSTON BUTTERFLIES

Location: Bilston Gallery

When: Fridays during term time, 12.30pm to 2pm

Stay and play sessions for parents.

Ages: 0 to 5 (older siblings are welcome to attend).

Cost: Free. Drop in

All workshops require a parent or guardian to stay on-site.
