Stargazing, critter encounters and adults only frightful fun at Winchester Science Centre’s autumn and winter evening events

Monthly Night Sky Live, Science Explained: Not So Creepy Critters and themed adults only Science Lates

Following a spectacular summer of sold-out Starlight Cinema screenings, Winchester Science Centre’s evening events are back with a bang for autumn and winter. A mix of family and adult only events will take place throughout the dark months from monthly outdoor stargazing at Night Sky Live (October to March) to the spooktacular Science Explained: Not So Creepy Critters on Thursday 26th October to the adults only Halloween horror movie themed Science Lates on Friday 6th October.

Night Sky Live

Get set for a family astro adventure this autumn and winter. Families are invited to head outside into the South Downs National Park to discover the stars and planets of the night sky, live!

Visitors will start their adventure in the Planetarium where they’ll learn the skills needed to identify what’s up in the sky. Armed with knowledge, families will then follow the stargazing host out into the South Downs National Park – an international dark sky reserve, the perfect spot to observe the stars, constellations and planets.

There are two arrival times for this event, 6:30pm and 7:15pm. 6:30pm itinerary – 6:45pm Planetarium, 7:15pm time to explore the exhibits, 8pm hosted stargazing experience, 8:45pm event finish. 7:15pm itinerary – 7:30pm Planetarium, 8pm time to explore the exhibits, 8:45pm hosted stargazing experience, 9:30pm event finish.

Science Explained: Not So Creepy Critters

Halloween critters are crawling out of the Science Centre shadows on Thursday 26th October. But families don’t need to be afraid as they’re invited to come and meet them to find out why they’re more curious than creepy.

Visitors will join animal encounter experts, ZooLab, for creature interactions and a live talk. Families can get hands on with snakes, lizards and tarantulas and discover more about snake venoms, explore the science of scales and find out about fangs and claws. There’ll also be time to explore the two floors of hands-on exhibits. Explorers will hopefully leave fascinated not fearful of our frightful friends!

Science Centre doors reopen at 5:45pm. The live talk starts at 6:45pm with the event finishing at 7:30pm.
