This summer dive into adventure as you experience life at sea at the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool. There is plenty for everyone to enjoy, whether you are looking for a family day out or you want to brush up on your history this is the place for you. With a historic war ship, interactive pirates exhibit, exciting demonstrations, outdoor playpark and so much more this is the perfect day out no matter what the weather brings.

Located at Hartlepool’s Jackson’s Dock is HMS Trincomalee, a 200-year-old warship surrounded by an authentically-recreated Georgian quayside. Climb aboard and be transported back in time. Explore the Captain’s Cabin’s and relive the sights and sounds of the hardy sailors that worked aboard the decks of this majestic ship.

The excitement doesn’t stop there, small and big kids alike can get hands on at Horrible Histories® Pirates: The Exhibition. This fun and light-hearted look at pirate life comes complete with costumes and cracking cannons ready for you to take into battle with the enemy. Little sailors can uncover the patter of pirate talk and learn the lingo, decide their fate on the wheel of misfortune and get to grips with the rules of the pirate code. Lively illustrations, foul facts, and gruesome games bring the stories of putrid pirates to life so fans of the books, stage shows and TV series will know what to expect!

Diving Deep Exhibition:

Make sure to explore National Museum’s Diving Deep Exhibition and discover the exciting story of HMS Invincible through cutting edge technology and objects that had lain undiscovered for hundreds of years. Witness an incredible collection of original artefacts that have been retrieved from the dig site, you’ll be able to see everything from authentic swivel guns to original wig curlers on display.

As well as our exhibition spaces visitors will amazed by the national museum’s impressive demonstrations. Get to grips with their object handling sessions, cover your ears as you watch our cannon firings or learn more about the art and skill of rope making, there is always plenty to see and do at the site. If you need to rest your weary sea legs after a busy day they also have a café on site serving a variety of drinks and treats. Kids can also burn off any access energy at their outdoor adventure playship– a must for any family visit. It comes complete with rope ladders, look-out posts, hammocks, swings and slides.

All of these activities are included in their ticket price. As well as this all of their tickets are valid for a full year so visitors can return as many times as they like for no extra cost – perfect for when you need something to do for the school holidays.
