October half term at Winchester Science Centre

October half term at Winchester Science Centre

It’s trick or treat season and Winchester Science Centre is pulling out all the stops to fill this one with fiendish science fun! Between Saturday 20th October and Monday 4th November, there’ll be all the usual Science Centre fun, plus even more to excite all ages at Science Spooktacular – and it’s all included with admission. Families can swap spooky scares for frightful fun on the trick or treat trail. They’ll be wowed by epic chemistry demos in the brand new free live show, Potions Science Lab. And little werewolves, witches and ghouls can show off their best moves on the dancefloor at the mini monster disco.

Who’s ready for some trick or treat science? Families are invited to join Skully the skeleton for a fiendishly fun trick or treat trail around the Science Centre this October. Trail goers will discover fun facts about how important our bones are as they go in search of Skully’s lost bones. Halloween detectives will need to find out what our bones do in order to put all of Skully’s back together again.

The biggest treat of the spooktacular season will be the mini monster disco. Little monsters, witches and werewolves are invited to put on their best Halloween costumes and hit the Science Live dancefloor every day at 4pm between Friday 25th October and Monday 4th November.

If all that’s got families needing a rest, then it’s time to sit back in the free 20-minute live science show, Potions Science Lab. Join the science Inspirers as they mix up some science fun and use chemistry to bring to life some bewitching brews. There may be no eye of newt in Winchester, but you don’t need that when you’ve got science as your secret ingredient. Audiences will watch as metal salts create a rainbow blaze and be wowed as oxidisation brings to life the famous invisibility potion. There’ll also be an epic catalyst cloud finale!

Over in the Planetarium, the pilots will be blasting visitors off into space. Live show, Our Amazing Solar System will take audiences on a ‘believe it or not’ tour of our solar system’s planets, stars and moons. And in subtitled film show, Astronaut, space explorers will find out what it takes to be part of the most exciting journey that humans have ever been on. Please note, the Planetarium has an additional £4 charge.

And don’t forget all the other hands-on fun on offer! With two floors of exciting interactive exhibits to discover, there’ll be fun for the whole family to enjoy. Visitors can discover more about sound, hearing and vibration on the upper floor. Climb inside a giant guitar. Explore the acoustic rocket. And even learn some British Sign Language. On the lower floor families can blast off on a journey through Explorer:Space and discover more about what it’s like to live and work in space in the interactive space zone. Plus there’ll be huge ‘don’t-try-this-at-home’ demos taking place at regular intervals in Science Live and hands-on fun to be had in nature adventure zone Bio:Space.
