Green Woodworking event
Join us at the Botanic Garden on Sunday 14 April where local green woodworker, Chris Helliwell, will be demonstrating his traditional wood-turning craft skills using a pole lathe and shave horse, and giving people an opportunity to have a go.
During your visit, you can explore more of our unique garden and discover something new around each corner. We have plant collections from around the world, including China, Japan, North America, South Africa, New Zealand and Chile, as well as a woodland garden, alpine garden and bamboo grove. In our glasshouse, along with a range of plants from different habitats, you’ll also find our resident bugs, insects and spiders, including scorpions and tarantulas. Our Visitor Centre also has a gift shop with a selection of items available (including many unique items not found anywhere else in Durham) and a coffee shop serving hot and cold drinks and light snacks.
We recommend visitors use the car park outside the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science building, located near the Visitor Centre. More information on parking is available in the Getting Here by Car section on our website.
