Blessing of the Crib and Lighting of the Christmas Tree
A family favourite service where the lights on the cathedral’s giant Christmas tree are lit, and the nativity scene is blessed.
Durham Cathedral’s beautiful crib scene will be blessed by the Dean, the Very Revd Dr Philip Plyming, at a special service suitable for people of all ages, including children, on Sunday 15 December at 3.30 p.m.
The nativity scene is very unique and includes a number of touches from the North East including a pit pony instead of a donkey and the Shepherd holding a miner’s lamp. It is much-loved by young and old alike.
