Big Screen Weekend

Big Screen Weekend

Summer’s just around the corner and that can only mean one thing in Sherwood Forest – the Robin Hood Festival.

This year’s event – the 37th Festival to be held here – will take place over 14 days, across five weekends.

We’ll have spectacular arena shows, outdoor cinema, re-enactment, comedy, magic, music and much more.

After the success of last year’s debut for outdoor cinema at Sherwood Forest, we’ve teamed up this time around with Adventure Cinema to screen films for all the family at our Big Screen Weekend over three days from 27th-29th July.

We begin on Thursday 27th July with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first of J.K. Rowling’s much-loved tales of the young wizard and his adventures at Hogwarts.

On the Friday, we’ll be transported to the Pacific islands of Hawaii for enchanting tale of Moana, the brave and intrepid princess who sets out across the ocean to challenge the god Maui to help her fellow islanders.

Then in the evening, well, nobody will be be putting Baby in the corner when we show the 1980s classic Dirty Dancing, starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

And it’s not one, not two, but four films on Saturday, starting with the delightful double bill for children, The Gruffalo and The Stickman, created by author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler

Did you know that 2023 is the 50th anniversary of Disney’s Robin Hood?

We’ll be in celebratory mood when we show it on the Saturday afternoon at 3.15pm.

And then in the evening, we finish our cinema weekend with Russell Crowe in the role of the outlaw in a Hollywood blockbuster version of Robin Hood from 2010.

Bring a blanket or chairs (unless you purchase a premium ticket, which comes with a luxury deckchair in a prime position). You can also bring a picnic or purchase something from our cafe.

Tickets for the Big Screen Weekend must be booked via the Adventure Cinema website

But, that’s not all.

On Sunday 30th July, we’ll have the official opening of the festival with a character parade before the fabulous Sherwood Outlaws will be inviting you to take part in a thrilling outlaw hunt within the forest.
