Supersharks Swim School Surbiton and Cobham
Learn to Swim by building confidence
Supersharks is a well-established family-run swim school, specialising in small-group lessons, established in 1998.
Every child should know how to swim for their own safety and survival and here at Supersharks that is our first priority!
We really care about teaching children to swim and teaching your kids not just to survive but to thrive in the water is something we pride ourselves on.
That’s why we teach our lessons in small groups, so that your child has maximum attention and improvement. We aim to make competent swimming a good habit your child continues for life helping them to stay fit, healthy and relaxed.
At Supersharks, we choose and train only the best teachers we can find and this combined with our small ratio, allows us to guarantee that your child will improve faster and become a stronger swimmer with us than in a larger group with another swim school or just learning the basics at school.
We have over 50 years of combined teaching and coaching swimming experience and our pupils frequently go on to join different local swimming, rowing and sailing clubs, achieving success at all levels including swimming at National level (the top level before swimming for your Country)!
Learn to Swim
Build water confidence and learn to swim in a focused, small group environment.
We begin your child’s journey towards learning to swim by teaching them water skills to increase their confidence such as moving around the water, encouraging aquatic breathing (through blowing bubbles into the water). Moving towards submerging under the water and placing their faces into the water. This can start with children from as young as 3½/4 years old. This leads onto the early stages of learning the strokes of swimming which generally starts from 4½/5years old (this is due to cognitive development and concentration levels).
Once your child has developed water confidence and a strong leg kick, we can begin to introduce the arm pulling action, breathing technique and performing the full strokes.
Stroke Improvement
Improve your child’s swimming technique with attention to detail and progress guaranteed
One of the most common things that stop a child’s progress in swimming is lack of attention to detail caused by over sized groups.
We often hear from the parents’ of the children we teach that one of the things they value the most about our swim school is that they see progress clearly in their child’s performance from term to term. For this reason we created our Shark Award Scheme (so that parents can see what their child has achieved).
Our small group ratio allows us to focus very clearly on perfecting each of the four main competitive swimming strokes. Once we have taught Frontcrawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, we then teach diving and tumbleturns.
Advanced Swimming
Advanced swimming, Lifesaving skills and Teen fitness sessions available.
These are slightly longer swimming sessions of 45 minute or 1 hour duration created for long standing swimmers who have mastered the four strokes and advanced skills such as starts and turns, who wish to continue swimming for fitness and learn life saving skills.
As well as long standing swimmers, we also cater for both current swimming club members who want advanced stroke clinics and small group attention to detail. Past swimming club swimmers also attend who want to swim for fitness but don’t want the commitment of training in a swimming club setting.
