The Severn Valley Railway is a 16-mile long heritage railway in the Midlands, running regular passenger steam trains, heritage diesel trains and special events throughout the year.
Whether it is the beautiful English countryside, fabulous engines or the many interesting places to stop on the journey, the Severn Valley Railway will thrill all – young or old.
The ideal place to visit in the Midlands
Along the line, you will discover many reasons why the Severn Valley Railway is an ideal day out in the UK. Our Kidderminster station at the southern end of the line was built in 1984 and is based on the original Ross-On-Wye station, built by the GWR.
Moving northbound you can stop and admire the town of Bewdley, the Worcestershire village of Arley, get up close and learn about our locomotives and carriages at The Engine House, visit the sleepy hamlet of Hampton Loade and visit the Shropshire town of Bridgnorth.

Severn Valley Railway – Every journey ends with a memory
The Severn Valley Railway is a full-size standard-gauge railway, running regular, mainly steam-hauled, passenger trains between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire, a distance of approximately sixteen miles.
A remarkable feature of the Railway is that it is very largely run by unpaid volunteers, with a paid staff of around 70 people responsible for administration and commercial activities, and for regular track and rolling stock maintenance.
Throughout the year, volunteers appear on the Railway to perform many tasks, including repairing and repainting stations, reconstruction of viaducts and bridges, and rebuilding locomotives and rolling stock, not to mention operating the trains!
The SVR holds children’s events each school holiday, including craft activities at their Engine House in Highley.
