Home Start Wyre Forest

Charities, Family Services , Local Services

We are a family support charity, supporting families throughout the Wyre Forest. We are always looking for volunteers to support families; do you know how hard it is to be a parent and could give up 2-3 hours a week to visit a family with children 0-18 who are experiencing difficulties?

Our team of wonderful home-visiting volunteers visit families in their own homes and

give them emotional and or practical support. The home-visiting volunteer could help the parent/carer access a medical appointment, look after a child whilst the parent/carer has a shower, sits, and listens to the parent/carer offload to someone who is non-judgmental.

Volunteers can visit any day of the week (including weekends) and visit families during daytime hours and lots of families need an afterschool visit.

Full training, support and travel expenses are provided. The volunteer role is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure. The volunteer needs to complete a 9-week preparation course which is one day a week for the 9 weeks, however we do have other training options including a hybrid course and an evening course. The course subjects cover confidentiality, commitment and boundaries, mental health, drug and alcohol dependency, safeguarding and more. Once trained our volunteers can also access a range of ongoing training opportunities which there is no cost for.

We also have a swap shop that any member of the Wyre Forest community can access, we hold a substantial amount of baby clothes and items, children’s clothes, toys and books and a small amount of adult clothes, the swap shop is also looking for volunteers to sort and quality check items and collect/deliver items to members of the Wyre Forest.

We also run 2 family groups that are only accessible to families who are receiving Home Start support which volunteers can help out at too.
