Christchurch Mansion

Nestled in the heart of Ipswich within the beautiful surroundings of Christchurch Park, the historic Christchurch Mansion boasts oChristchurch Mansion logover 500 years of history with lots to discover.

 

Step back through history and explore period rooms from the Tudor kitchen to the sumptuous Georgian saloon and the beautifully detailed Victorian wing. Imagine how the past owners of Christchurch Mansion and their servants would have lived. The toy room is a great favourite, with bears, toy soldiers, a huge dolls house and more.

The Mansion also holds a large fine art collection, including the biggest collection of Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable paintings outside of London.

Events and temporary exhibitions are held at the Mansion throughout the year, including fun activities for families during school holidays such as craft workshops, activities and trails.

There is also an annual Christmas grotto in December where children can meet Father Christmas. Monthly Mini Mansions groups for toddlers are a great opportunity for our youngest visitors to have fun, explore and learn.

If you want to learn more about the house, free ‘Peep into the Past’ tours, led by expert guides, run between March and October. These tours last 30 – 40 minutes and there is no need to book, you simply meet your guide in the Great Hall at 11am Tuesdays – Saturdays or 2pm on Sundays.

You can also enjoy the picturesque park grounds’ lawns, gardens, play areas, woodland and ponds, making a visit to Christchurch Mansion a great day out. Those looking for a bite to eat can enjoy refreshments at the Mansion’s tearoom to either take away or eat in.

 

Entry is free and the Mansion is open Tuesdays-Sundays, closed on Mondays. Opening times are seasonal so check before you visit.
