National Railway Museum York
Perfect for train-loving kids and surprisingly good for adults too. Huge locomotives, interactive exhibits, and free entry make it one of the best-value family days out in Yorkshire.
Stockeld Park One of the best adventure-style family parks in Yorkshire, especially for primary-school-age children. It has maze trails, climbing areas, playgrounds and seasonal events.
The Forbidden Corner
A wonderfully weird maze of tunnels, statues, secret passages and surprises in the Yorkshire Dales. Families love it because it feels like stepping into a fantasy world. Booking ahead is usually essential. Yorkshire Sculpture Park Great if you want something outdoorsy but relaxed. Kids can run around open parkland while adults enjoy giant sculptures and lakeside walks.
Diggerland Yorkshire
Ideal for younger children obsessed with diggers and construction vehicles — they can actually ride and operate machinery.
Outdoor adventure & nature
Yorkshire Dales National Park For waterfalls, caves, picnic spots and easy family walks. Malham Cove, Bolton Abbey and Aysgarth Falls are particularly family-friendly.

Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington are all strong choices for a traditional seaside day with arcades, beaches and fish & chips. Bempton Cliffs is excellent in summer for puffin spotting.

Swithens Farm

Good for younger kids thanks to the play areas, animals and café. Easy option if you’re near Leeds. Hesketh Farm Park There’s lots to do, including feeding and stroking the animals, having fun inside. A giant sandpit or playing hide and seek with your friends in the straw maze.
Rainy-day ideas
Royal Armouries — free museum with live demonstrations and loads of armour displays. Crazy Tykes Indoor and Outdoor Children’s Soft play centre Handy for younger children when the weather turns.
