Forum Theatre Billingham Launches a New Look Theatre School Featuring a Long Standing Panto Favourite!
Running since 1999 the Forum Theatre School has launched a new look programme to help introduce children to the wonderful world of theatre. The school’s content has been revamped making it more accessible and relevant to how the industry is today and a number of new experienced team members have been recruited including the long running Billingham pantomime star Liam Mellor.
Liam said “I’m delighted to be joining the Forum Theatre School as Principle and will be responsible for the day to day running of the school. I’m looking forward to opening a brand new bright chapter for the theatre school and we have a great team of tutors who are going to make it a cracking place to develop and gain skills for our students.”
The theatre school runs at the Forum Theatre every Saturday from 10am – 2pm and is split up into 3 age groups which are Juniors (6-9 years old), Inters (10-13 years old) and Seniors (14-17 years old).
Students can explore the world of theatre through drama, dance and singing under the guidance of experienced tutors. This helps to build confidence and social skills. With the school based in the theatre, students are able to experience a working theatre first hand. This includes working with visiting professional companies and actors where appropriate, technical training which includes the fundamentals of backstage management including sound and lighting as well as performing in an annual showcase on The Forum Theatre stage.
Students are also given the opportunity to audition for visiting professional companies when they require younger actors and dancers as well as auditioning for TV and film work and for other companies in the area.
To date Forum Theatre School has been involved in a number of professional productions, including professional pantomimes at the theatre, Annie the Musical, Joseph, Scrooge, Mad About Musicals, Christmas Cavalcade as well as assorted visiting ballet companies. This years summer showcase will encapsulate song and dance from a range of musicals with tickets going on sale soon!
