Spotlight On… Our Earth, Life Science

Life is putting the focus on “Our Earth” in the latest in a series of Spotlight On events.

During this special one-day event, North East scientists and engineers will be sharing the exciting and innovative methods they use to help us learn about the planet’s history and its future.

Scientists from the universities of Newcastle, Durham and Northumbria will share their knowledge and answer questions, and there will be a range of hands-on activities to enjoy.

Things you can do include:

·         Touch a thousand-year-old stalactite and discover how they inform us about our planet’s history

·         See vomited oil from seabird stomachs and learn what this tells us about life in the Southern Ocean

·         Get hands on with chromatography experiments – the same technique scientists use on fossilised reindeer poo!

·         Discover similarities between the earth and cake!

All included in your science centre ticket! This event will run in addition to the usual exhibits and activities.
