Looking for a family day out in Southampton? Whether you’re planning a weekend adventure or entertaining the children during the school holidays, there’s plenty to discover across the city. Here are some of our favourite family-friendly attractions.

🚢 SeaCity Museum

Discover Southampton’s fascinating maritime history through hands-on exhibits, interactive displays and the story of the Titanic. There’s plenty to keep younger visitors engaged while adults enjoy learning more about the city’s past.

🌳 Southampton Common

One of the city’s best-loved green spaces, Southampton Common is perfect for a free family day out. Enjoy woodland walks, a large adventure playground, duck ponds and plenty of space for picnics and games.

🦁 Marwell Zoo

Just outside Southampton, Marwell Zoo is home to hundreds of animals including giraffes, tigers, penguins and tropical birds. With spacious grounds, adventure play areas and seasonal events, it’s a fantastic full-day outing.

🚂 Royal Victoria Country Park

This beautiful country park combines woodland walks, open spaces, a beach, children’s play areas and the popular miniature railway. It’s an ideal place to spend a whole day outdoors.

Top tip: Pack a picnic or enjoy lunch at the park café overlooking Southampton Water.

⚓ Solent Sky Museum

Perfect for budding pilots and aviation fans, Solent Sky showcases iconic aircraft and tells the story of Southampton’s role in aviation history, including the famous Spitfire.

🛍️ Westquay

More than just shopping, Westquay offers family-friendly restaurants, a cinema, bowling and seasonal events throughout the year, making it a great option if the weather isn’t playing ball.

🌊 Mayflower Park

With fantastic views across Southampton Water, Mayflower Park is ideal for letting the children run around while watching the cruise ships come and go. There’s also a large play area and plenty of space for family games.
