Nurturing Connection with your child using Baby Massage & Baby Yoga
Nurturing Connection with your child using Baby Massage & Baby Yoga
The early months of a baby’s life are a time of rapid growth, connection, and discovery.
Baby massage and Baby Yoga are gentle, supportive practices that nurture a baby’s physical development while also strengthening emotional bonds and creating moments of calm and closeness for both mum and baby. These practices offer a beautiful way to slow down, tune in, and build confidence in early parenting.
Touch is one of the first senses to develop and plays a vital role in helping babies feel safe and secure, deepening the connection with those who care for them. Regular massage encourages the release of oxytocin, strengthening emotional attachment and promoting feelings of relaxation, trust, and wellbeing for both baby and parent.
Baby Massage
Baby massage involves slow, rhythmic strokes using warm hands and, often, natural oils. This soothing touch provides comfort and reassurance, helping babies feel safe, loved, and relaxed. One of the greatest benefits of baby massage is bonding and attachment. Through skin-to-skin contact, both baby and parent release oxytocin, supporting trust, emotional connection, and confidence in nurturing touch.
Physically, baby massage can aid digestion and help relieve common discomforts such as wind, colic, and constipation. Gentle abdominal strokes stimulate the digestive system, which may lead to improved sleep patterns and reduced fussiness. Baby massage is also a wonderful addition to calm bedtime routines, encouraging relaxation and deeper, more settled sleep.
Baby Yoga
Baby yoga is suitable from around 12 weeks old and combines gentle movements, stretches, songs, and interaction to support a baby’s physical and emotional development. It encourages flexibility, coordination, and strength while allowing babies to explore movements in a safe, playful, and nurturing way. Certain movements can also help ease common discomfort such as gas, colic and constipation. The calming nature of baby yoga can help babies relax, making it easier for them to settle and sleep. Unlike adult yoga , baby yoga is not about holding poses or achieving flexibility. Instead, it emphasises , movement, touch, rhythm, and interaction, always guided by the babies cues and natural abilities.
