The go-to guide for you and your child

Half term fun with Zog

This October, join Dragon School at Wakehurst for an outdoor family trail inspired by Zog, the bestselling book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

New recruits will learn to fly, roar, and breathe fire through five fun challenges – all while discovering the power of teamwork, friendship, and perseverance.

Pick up your Zog Log at the Dragon School Hut and earn your Zog badge when you’ve completed your training!

No prior dragon training required: just bring your family and friends, your wellies, and get ready to become the best dragon you can be!

Zog activity leaflet and badge: £7 (£5 for Wakehurst members).

Garden entry is free for children aged 16 and under.

24 October will be a Quiet Day, with reduced sessions across the gardens, to make for a more relaxed experience for those who would benefit from this. Pre booking is essential for this day.

Dogs are welcome on the trail – follow the signage at Wakehurst to stick to the doggy-friendly route.

Please note: there won’t be any costume characters as part of this event.

Visiting Wakehurst

Wakehurst is a beautiful botanical garden in Sussex, part of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Visit this autumn for the Zog family trail and witness autumnal beauty as it unfolds across the gardens.

Little legs can explore acres of space, marvel at massive trees and colourful corners, enjoy cooking up a storm in the Mud Kitchen and mastering Tree Trunk Trek.

Families will also enjoy the new Bank a Seed activity in the Millennium Seed Bank – learn what our scientists do in the MSB when seeds arrive!

With plenty of buggy-friendly pathways, two cafes and a shop full of goodies for the whole family, Wakehurst makes the perfect autumnal day out in Sussex.
